A simple building project has grown into a meaningful expression of community and service, with church members and volunteers coming together to support women in crisis through BaptistCare’s Wright Place.
At the centre of the project are three bespoke cubby houses, handcrafted over several months by volunteers from the Men’s Shed Parafield. Several of those involved are members of the Ingle Farm Baptist Church community, including Men’s Shed President Bryce Routley.
As the builds progressed, the project gathered momentum, drawing in more volunteers eager to contribute their skills and ideas. Mr Routley said the collaborative nature of the builds became one of the most rewarding aspects of the initiative.
“These three cubby houses have taken months to build, and what stood out was how more and more volunteers wanted to be involved as the project took shape,” he said. “Everyone brought their own ideas and experience to the table, which is why each cubby has its own unique look. There’s a real sense of pride in what’s been created together.”
The cubby houses are now available through an online auction, which closes at 5pm on 2 June, with all proceeds supporting BaptistCare’s Wright Place.
Wright Place is a BaptistCare service established in late 2023 to support women who have found themselves without a safe place to call home. Through short‑term accommodation and personalised support, the service helps women regain stability and move towards a more secure future.
Since opening, Wright Place has supported more than 80 women, many of whom have gone on to find long‑term housing and rebuild connections with family and community.
For those unable to bid on a cubby house, the auction website also offers a direct donation option, allowing everyone the opportunity to support this important work.
